THE ASSASSINATION OF GIANNI VERSACE

This show absolutely gripped me. Obviously by the title it told the twisted tale of Andrew Cunanan's life and how he eventually ended up killing one of the greatest and most influential designers that has and ever will be, Gianni Versace.

Before watching I originally thought the series would focus on Gianni and his life and relationship with his sister and the fashion industry before his sudden death however they made Andrew Cunanan, the killer of Gianni, the focus of events and in some ways glamourised his lifestyle. It showed how Andrew managed to accumulate exactly what he wanted by lying and manipulating situations and people. About half way through the 9 part Tv series I began to wonder why they were showing Andrew in such a light that glamourised his actions and almost made him out to be clever and praised him for how he lived his life. However this all changed in the final episode where we really saw Cunanan's downfall and all of his lies and manipulations crumbled down onto him. I loved how they built him up through each episode to be a well controlled and clever individual to eventually have all of this expertise crash down in just one episode. It still irks me however that he killed himself and still managed to end his life on his own terms.

One reason that the show captivated me so much was sheerly down to the cinematography, you could tell that each shot was so carefully calculated and especially when filming in the Versace Mansion they really captured the detail and spectacular of the building.
